Our Kids is the lead community-based care agency tasked by the State of Florida to care for every child in Miami-Dade and Monroe counties who is referred for services by the Department of Children and Families (DCF) due to abuse, abandonment, and neglect. Our mission is to develop and deliver a coordinated system of care that keeps children safely in their homes, reunifies children with their parents, and achieves permanency for children with relatives or through adoption. Through our network of partners, we deliver a full range of prevention, foster care, and adoption services that ensure the safety and well-being of children while creating permanency in their lives through reunification with their parents or through adoption.
Our Kids is committed to finding solutions that provide greater access to services for both children and their parents, ensure children who enter the foster care system find safe, nurturing, loving and permanent families, and that equip the youth transitioning out of child welfare with the skills and tools they need to be self-sufficient. By implementing the strategies and initiatives laid out in the Our Kids’ 2018 – 2021 Strategic Plan , our organization aims to attain stable housing for children by providing needed services, increasing safety and stability for runaway and homeless youth so that they do not become victims of human trafficking, supporting the recovery of trafficking survivors, and improving the outcomes for both the youth in foster care and those transitioning out of care; all of which contribute to the Department of Children and Families’ mission. Across our efforts, we recognize the crucial role our community partners play in the delivery of the system of care. In order to ensure our vision addresses the needs of our community, on December 15, 2017, we distributed an initial draft of this plan to the Our Kids Board of Trustees, Our Kids Youth Advisory Council, Community-Based Care Alliance Board of Directors, all of the service providers our organization contracts with, judicial leaders and elected officials, the Guardian ad Litem, Children’s Legal Services, Foster and Adoptive Parent Associations, the Florida Coalition for Children, and the Department of Children and Families. Upon sharing our initial draft, we asked each of the aforementioned to provide us their feedback and suggested edits as well as invited them to share the draft with anyone they felt could also provide insightful feedback. Additionally, we asked all parties to submit their feedback and comments electronically by midnight on January 16, 2018. Our finalized strategic plan incorporates many of the suggestions we received during this period, making this a strategic plan not just for Our Kids, but for the entire system of care. Within Our Kids, we will continue to track and measure our progress in accomplishing the actions described in our plan.
Our Kids welcomes feedback as an opportunity to see teaching, learning, and professional growth in new ways. We understand the importance of having our staff and community stakeholders involved in Council on Accreditation (COA) and Performance Quality Improvement (PQI) process.
